“THEY LIVE” starring Professional Wrestler Roderick Toombs (Roddy Piper) was released on this day 37 years ago in 1988, and though it was corny, it was a crazy movie, more relevant now than then.

I have come here to chew bubblegum and kick ass, and I’m all out of bubblegum! I bet if we had those glasses we’d see some of those creatures around America today!

Fun movie, I own as mp4. Opening words apply now, but no other parts.

“I’m here to chew some bubblegum and kick some ass, and I’m all out of bubblegum!” That was his great quote in this movie, wasn’t it?

    4. I was at a boutique candy shop in the city where he was born. They had bubble gum flavoured soda with him on the label in sunglasses from the bank scene

Wow didn’t realize this came out same year & week I was born; great freaking movie that still pertains to today!!!

    6. I came into work one day to help my colleague who was short staffed at work and walked in and said Im here to cancel service and chew bubble gum and cancel home support and she looked at me blankly. Later she saw the film and declared it was one of the great sci fi films. Roddy Piper was amazing and should have done more acting gigs.

I came here to chew bubblegum and kick some ass

    8. Apparently Carpenter told Roddy Piper to come up with a backstory for the character that he keeps to himself and doesn’t tell anyone else in the cast. That way he could have a consistent, but hidden center for his actions. He never told anyone on the cast or John Carpenter.

    9. I live in the same town he did before he died and used to run into him all the time. I’d always ask him if he had those special sunglasses.

His funeral was held at a local church where my mother is worship leader but I wasn’t allowed to go I was bummed…

    10. John Carpenter’s best film, imo. Piper was excellent as the lead. Perfect portrayal of the strong, silent hero and he had some iconic lines.
